We've put together a quick guide showing how to install a SATA drive in the Star Labs Byte and expand your storage in just a few minutes.

The flashrom integration is also gone; the only OEM using this was #StarLabs and they've moved to the much more stable mtd and UEFI capsule updates. We've got a tiny plugin that tells people on old firmware versions how to update manually.
The libflashrom support always felt like an impedance mismatch with the plugin architecture, and the plugin itself was a constant source of integration issues -- and also several additional runtime deps. This means packagers can drop flashrom-dev too.

StarFighter Linux laptop with detachable webcam and premium specs is finally shipping
Star Labs has been selling Linux laptops and mini PCs since 2017. While most of the company’s products have featured budget or mid-range hardware, Star Labs introduced a premium laptop called the StarFighter in 2022… and then never managed to ship that laptop. Until now.
The Star Labs StarFighter is a Linux laptop with a 16 inch high-res, high refresh-rate display, Intel and AMD processor […]

@RootMoose yes, thanks. i was looking at this same one. couldn't quite tell if it's a 2in1 or a tablet w/ an attachable keyboard. tho if it's powerful enough, i guess it doesn't matter
Anyone have any experience w/ #StarLabs #StarLite laptop/tablet?
I'm thinking about buying a StarBook Ultra by @starlabssystems and I'm wondering if someone here on the Fediverse (not related to StarLabs) owns one and could share some personal opinions and insights about it?

Besides regular office work, I do some content creation, 3D modelling, local AI stuff (just tinkering).
I'm looking for decent hardware I actually own and control, and I want to use it for a looooong time (10+ years).
Currently, I'm using a MacBook Pro M1, so this is my benchmark (material, battery life, computational power). But I really miss Linux and GNOME...
Planned OS: Fedora Linux
Starting my journey of switching from Windows to #Linux as my daily driver - I have a shiny new #Starlabs laptop with #Ubuntu, just went through the first-boot process, and it's already perplexing.
Apparently the default user UID has changed from 500 to 1000... Which is annoying, because I'd like to keep my systems consistent, and I am UID 500 on the two servers we're running (both of which were set up *mumble* years ago).
How much trouble am I going to cause myself if I change my UID from 1000 to 500 on this new laptop?
