I left this stapelia outside under the Denver sun all summer. I thought it’d died. Brought it in for winter and it rewarded me with a bloom I’ve never seen before.
#Stapelia gigantea (?) ist eine #Sukkulente aus dem südlichen #Afrika.
Die #Blüte sieht aus, wie von einem anderen Stern. Nachteil: Die Blüte stinkt, damit lockt sie Fliegen an. Vorteil: Durch den Geruch bemerkt man immer, wenn sie blüht.
Ansonsten sind Stapelien anspruchslose #Pflanzen, die gerne draußen sind, wenn es frostfrei ist.

I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do when the Stapelia gigantea flowers. The flowers can reach a diameter of over 40cm (16 inch) when fully open.
Oh, and if it wasn't clear they smell like carrion. It's an evolutionary strategy to trick flies and beetles to pollinate it's flowers. Sadly for the pollinators they've been duped: No nectar nor rotting meat to eat on these plants!
