Over the May Bank holiday, I spent time in the gay village volunteering with sparkle to raise funds for the upcoming sparkle weekend.

Thanks to the generosity of the local community, and everyone who donated, I can share that we managed to raise over £3,000!

Personally, I'm so proud of our team and am thankful for all the hard work put in. I'm thankful for every donation. £3k won't pay for a whole festival, but it does make more of a difference than you could possibly know.

Sparkle Weekend is at the end of June (from the 26th). It's only a few short weeks away, and I feel it's especially needed at the moment, given the sustained attacks on the trans community.

It doesn't come cheep though. We're impacted by the cost of living crisis making everything more expensive, and corporates have been pulling back support for our trans specific organisation. To try and help, we're doing a fundraising event this whole weekend in the gay village. Look out for us in our purple high-vis jackets, and please give generously! I'd like to do a little rant for a moment about the FAQ on transpridemcr's website; https://www.transpridemcr.org/about-mcr

Their answer to the question "what's the difference between you and sparkle" is really poorly worded.

I don't speak for either organisation, but I have worked with both; for Trans Pride Mcr as a steward on their march and Sparkle as a key volunteer. We (TPM & Sparkle) even did a protest together at one point, headed up by Sparkle and promoted by TPM. So TPM are aware that Sparkle do engage in protest. But even if they didn't there's been a protest march at the Sparkle Weekend the last couple of years, and its something of a tradition reaching back since before the pandemic.

Also, by discussing pride becoming a "money making scheme" in the answer to this question in particular, there's the implication that Sparkle is also a money making scheme. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Sparkle sanctuary today went so well! The food was good and everyone was happy. I got to cook the cottage pie recipe I practiced the other week.😁
