#OnThisDay in 1807 or 1808, Solomon Northup was born as a freeman. In 1841, he was kidnapped and forced into slavery for 12 years before legally proving his status. He later wrote his memoir, Twelve Years a Slave.

Been thinking about the books written by former American #Slaves about #Slavery, and the absurdity of the chorus in the media at the time calling them liars... like, really? #Authoritarians actually wrote that the "abuse" when people literally used the #Law to protect and encourage wasn't happening? What a ridiculous thing to even claim to believe.

I also came across a REALLY interesting quote from #SolomonNorthup in #12YearsASlave (which I can't read due to PTSD)...
