Utility says its equipment may have started a small blaze that erupted during January's LA firestorm

A California utility says its equipment may have sparked a small wildfire in Los Angeles that broke out the same day as two massive blazes in the area killed at least 29 people and destroyed thousands of homes. The statement Thursday by Southern California Edison over its possible role in the Hurst Fire came in a required filing with state utility regulators. In a second filing, the utility said it is looking into whether an idle transmission line sparked the deadly Eaton Fire. But it maintains that there’s no evidence that its equipment was responsible for starting that blaze.

The power was out for 3 nights and came back on. It was because SoCal Edison is getting sued for ~allegedly~ being the cause of the Eaton Fire in AltaDena, California. The Pacific Palisades is also not Los Angeles for those watching outside of California news.

No power at our house from about 2pm Christmas Eve till an expected fix time of 2pm on 12/26. The generator will run 6 hours or so on a full tank, so to the gas station, if we can find one with power to fill up our small jug of gas. #losangeles #socaledison

Oh my god, what happened to tiered energy prices in SoCal? We were 9% under consumption from the same time last year but our bill this year is 2x what it was last year! $0.33/kWh then $0.43 after 309kWh!

The last few months seemed high but I chalked it up to us being bad with electricity (somehow, despite this being historically cheaper times for us.) Something must have changed January 1st but of course SoCal Edison communicated none of that to us.

I opted out of Time Of Use plans about a year ago when there was the campaign to move everyone to them. But SoCal Edison's estimator said our bill would go UP on any of them so it made sense at the time to stick with the tiered plan. I guess it's time to switch to a TOU plan now 😩
