More from the backlog from June 2024: Amtrak photos. I was on my way from LA to NYC, where I currently l live. I took the Coast Starlight from LA to Bay Area, where I stayed with friends and biked around to explore. I should get to Bay Area photos next. The number 1 reason why I take Amtrak: to bring my bike and be pretty confident that it won't get damaged. I don't have the luxury of deep aero carbon rims so hanging the bike on the wheel is fine. Amtrak both sucks and rocks. It sucks because it's often really late and it's so slow, but it rocks because the view is so nice that I have a good time despite the delays. My favorite parts of the Coast Starlight route: the part between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, the hills north of San Luis Obispo, Salinas River, and Mt Shasta, and Klamath Falls. These photos are between Santa Barbara and the dunes near Guadalupe. I love LA, and yes I did cry, not knowing when will be my next time in LA. #amtrak #socal #landscape #darktable

More of the Amtrak horror story: so the 10 pm train back to LA didn't show up, and the bus didn't show up either. Everyone else called Ubers and left by midnight. I was the last one at the station. I went to a hotel in Dana Point, because that would be cheaper than taking an Uber XL back to LA with my bike, and I didn't feel safe biking 80 miles back at night. Turns out that long after I fell asleep, that train finally came, at 3 am.
I left the hotel as early as possible and returned to San Juan Capistrano. I got to see the mission and more of the town, and took the 11 am train back to LA. There was a little delay due to the signal problem, but not that bad. So the trip worked and I got to see San Juan Capistrano much better.
