Just found the #SmithsonianOpenAccess project and it seems like the sort of thing Mastodon would appreciate.

That vast repository of American history that is the Smithsonian Institution evolved from an organization founded in 1816 called the Columbian Institute for the Promotion of Arts and Sciences.
"Welcome to Smithsonian Open Access, where you can download, share, and reuse millions of the Smithsonian’s images—right now, without asking. With new platforms and tools, you have easier access to more than 4.5 million 2D and 3D digital items from our collections—with many more to come. This includes images and data from across the Smithsonian’s 21 museums, nine research centers, libraries, archives, and the National Zoo."
What will you create?
The Smithsonian just put 4.5 million historic images into the public domain via Smithsonian Open Access -- just an amazing selection of art, photographs and scans. Some examples are below. Check out the full repository here:

Here's an effort to create AI image tools free of questionable sources. I'm pleased to see that they are using the #SmithsonianOpenAccess materials shortly after the museum launched the program. The #Cleveland Museum of Art as well.
My #Flickr photos are marked with the #CreativeCommons Share-alike license. I'll have to see if that falls under the CC0 umbrella.
Happy, #WindowFriday from the more than 4 million images the Smithsonian just made freely available in the public domain.
