Yesterday, I sketched at The Blanton Museum of Art while standing in front of the painting “David with the Head of Goliath,” c. 1620, oil on canvas, by Claude Vignon (1593-1670).
I drew this sketch freehand on my iPad Pro using the Sketch Club app. 55 minutes of work. I’ll post the original as a comment. #sketchclub #digitalart #digitalartist #digitaldrawing
Art is not always breathtakingly beautiful, calm, serene. Art can show us the brutality and ugliness of life, as well as the beauty. At the time of this painting, executions were still often done in public. That includes beheadings. To us, the image is shocking. But to the viewer of the time? Not so much. I did another sketch of this work awhile back, but did not focus on the head. You can find it here: sketchclub.com/sketch/4511795188465664
