Just finished reading Mary Mapes Dodge's #HansBrinker or the #SilverSkates. It was fun to read a #19thcentury view of #Holland, which I have visited. But I need to read more scholarship in #bookhistory and #childrenslit to understand what she was doing. The book doesn't feel like it's about Hans, especially in the 150 pages where his friends skate to other cities. Was Dodge trying to teach geography through fictional #travelogue?
