Kroum Batchvarov introduces Ab Hoving's latest book of the above title:

It's not a detailed page-through, just a quick glance at the book and description of what you can find therein.

But my appetite is whet! I had no notion that one could successfully build display ship models out of cardboard! It sounds like an excellent introduction to the craft: low material investment, quicker to construct, yet the end results are still satisfying.

Degaussing Cables and Deck Striping – Puttering in the Study

Hard at work on yet another Coral Sea Lexington (CV-2). Hoping to improve on the 2017 build by adding a partial hangar and one elevator down, degaussing cable, PE, and Model Monkey island and stack,
Working on finishing the scratchbuilt degaussing cable so I can turn to detailing the island and stack.
First model with Scale Colors paints - taking a little while to learn how best to apply them. #scalemodelling #scalemodeling #shipmodeling #shipmodels
Finished the 1/700 Trumpeter Hood. Added parts of an old WEM photoetch sheet, but mainly focused on getting the colors and configuration right. Glad to finally have it up on the shelf. #scalemodelling #scalemodeling #shipmodeling #shipmodels
Moved this pretty girl to #1 dock for final fitting out - way too many fiddly bits that need tracking. Decided the black waterline plate was too thin so I added another .040” layer - at a ridiculous point in construction, but I wanted a thicker boot topping. Hood’s was eight feet wide, and while most of the was underwater, it needed a little more “base”. #scalemodeling #shipmodeling #scalemodels
FDR Update - main hull complete, forecastle hull complete, hangar deck walls on port side of hangar bay 1 complete, topped with bottom of gallery deck. #scalemodeling #shipmodeling
FDR Day 10: Change of Plans – Puttering in the Study

Started another one - a 1/700 scratchbuilt USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB-42) as commissioned in 1945. #ScaleModeling #ShipModeling
Had to extend the flight deck sponson when I discovered a major measuring error, but that’s done and the stern railing is in place. Moving up to the hangar deck level for final detailing, including railings. Again, this is a 1/700 Trumpeter WW II CV-14 undergoing a major transformation into a 1969 CVS-12. #scalemodeling #shipmodeling #essexclasscarriers #scalemodels
Hornet (CVS-12) port side docking sponson complete, including brass PE railing and closed chock, and gasoline pipe routed around. Ridiculously proud to have this done. (Think the yellow benches were a later addition - am leaving them off). Waiting for the glue to dry so I can brush on the Haze Gray. #ScaleModeling #ShipModeling
