In December a student was struck and killed by a Union Pacific Railroad train on his walk to school. In the aftermath Union Pacific promised to limit train traffic in the area during student drop-off and pick-up times. But as a new school year is set to start next week, the company has resumed normal traffic conditions, surprising a local leader.
A new Texas law, prompted by the death of a Houston ISD student in December, will create a multimillion-dollar grant program for safer railroad crossings.
