Colonial accounts claim William Brydon as sole survivor of the #1842RetreatFromKabul, #ThisDayInHistory in the #FirstAngloAfghanWar. In fact, he made it out with several #sepoys, and hundreds were later released. But of the 16,000 people in the retreat column, few indeed escaped.

The #RedFort on the right, Salimgarh Fort on left & #River #Yamuna flowing through the connecting bridge.
Crocodiles & #Sepoys (soldiers) of #EastIndiaCompany can be seen too.
And, ships!

Presently surrounded by residential complexes, only the forts & the bridge exists with a road (highway) now passing under the bridge instead of the river!
