A view of the Porte des Allemands (German's gate), at the city of Metz, France. June 2025. This was once one of the city gates in the medieval fortifications of the city. The two towers on the right date from C13 while the bastion on the left dates from C15. It forms a bridge over the River Seille (a natural barrier) which is a tributary of the River Moselle and joins it close nearby. The Moselle later flows into the River Rhine in Germany which empties into the North Sea in the Netherlands.
