SLOOP LABURNUM
An arrival at Wellington this morning was H.M. sloop Laburnum, from Lyttelton. The Laburnum sailed from Lyttelton at 10 a.m. yesterday, and when outside Godley Heads shortly after noon engaged in gunnery practice. This was continued for about two hours, and was also carried out after dusk by the aid of searchlights.
The ship underwent her quarterly steam trials on the run up, and averaged over 14 knots.
The Laburnum’s company is to proceed to Trentham, where, with the complement from the Chatham, the men will take a course in musketry instruction.
By courtesy of Captain S. K. Smyth, four Sea Scouts belonging to the Lyttelton troop made the trip to Wellington, under command of Scoutmaster L. Waters. The names of the Scouts are: L. Sullivan, C. Coskella, P. Nidiolls, and C. Gilwray. They are returning to Lyttelton to-morrow night.
