I then ran a few variations on a speed egg collection game. We only have 4 in the Section currently unfortunately, so each was given a laundry basket at a compass point & I dumped a whole load of plastic eggs in the centre point, counted down from 3 & they had to collect them as fast as they could. We lost some eggs, they got stood on & broke.

Later variation was in teams of pairs facing each other, we swapped teammates each game too.

They were given chocolate eggs to finish.

Finally posting about the rest of last weekends camp!

The wobbly Scout mentioned in my last camp related post lasted until about 01:30 in the morning before asking to go home.
We did a number of things to try and get them to stay, but in the end they specifically requested a call home.
Mum called and two hours later arrived to pick the Scout up.
Two leaders stayed up with the Scout and were then given the opportunity to sleep as long as they wanted.

Saturday kicked off with a fry up and pancakes. We utilised our new gas powered paella pan for bacon, sausage, and eggs.

Our first activity utilised the sites orienteering course. Two hours of Scouts running around the site looking for numbers on plaques.

Lunch was a choice of cheese, ham, or cheese and ham (but not ham and cheese) wraps.
I accidentally made all the Scouts think they HAD to have either cucumber of lettuce, so they all got something green in their lunch.

After lunch was crate stacking, much more fun than I had expected. Each Scout had 3 minutes to get as high as possible. Two Scouts and our YL managed to top out at 12 layers (24 creates in total).
When the three minutes were up the participant was asked to stand on top and the crates were topped from under them.

The rest of the afternoon was free time. Scouts made dens, rope swings, and played hide and seek.
The other group on site was interested in a game of Warewolves so our YL facilitated that.

Dinner was cooked with our new pizza oven - I think this will come on many more camps to come as it proved a great success.

Saturday finished with a campfire, which we invited the other group to as well.
For many in the other group it was their first experience of a campfire, and they all seemed to have fun, and most joined in.

Another freezing cold night, and my snorin caused another leader to go and sleep in their van 😬

Sunday was all about getting up and striking camp.
Bacon wraps or pancakes were on the menu for breakfast.

We left site about 15 minutes later than expected, which is quite good for us!

It felt like quite a fulfilled but hands off weekend, which isn’t what the other leaders are used to.

Next up, my greenfield permit camp 🫣

Here are the badges I ordered for Christmas!

4 of them were meant to be enclosed in Christmas Cards, the rest are for me (mostly destined for my camp blanket). Some are customised.

I left spaces on my blanket as I aimed to get relevant badges to mark elements of my Scouting journey. Eventually I decided to do it via the custom route.

Tonight was our district camp fire.
I, however, thought it was a leaders only affair so didn’t invite any of our Scouts…

Enjoyed two hours of singing and skits. Our camp fire leader was an older Explorer Scout.
I was invited to do some songs - I picked Down In The Jungle and BP Spirit - and I learnt a bunch more songs.

Had a shower and still have a faint whiff of smoke!

The most amusing element for me though was that it’s another of my regular walking areas.

So I knew where I was throughout, but the youngsters, from the Scouts to the Young Leaders made comments which made clear they had lost their bearings.

Unlike at Cubs this week, this was a Scavenger Hunt, and no maps or compasses were used.

They had to find something beginning with all the letters of the Alphabet.

Last night of Term at #Scouts and another Night Hike…of sorts.

It was pitched as wandering around the village doing challenges last week (a chippy hike without the chips was my impression)…but was actually a walk AROUND (part of) the village.

…So it was woodland and country path walks in the dark rather than suburbia.

It was a very different experience to Cubs this week. There are a lot more Young People, they have Young Leaders (lots of them), and I wasn’t in charge!

Last night was the end of Spring Term at Cubs.

We went for a Night Hike. It was our first in a long time, and only my second.

Many of them completed Stage 2 of the Navigator Badge. They used compasses with my hand drawn map of the local forest paths.

I led them in a Repeat After Me campfire song at one point as we walked through the dark woodland paths.

And we ended with (somehow) my first ever Scouts’ Own.
