Paul Kavanagh’s column in The National today sits under a headline that is both ominously prophetic and chillingly accurate—Reform UK is going to buy its way into the Scottish Parliament. This is prompted by reports that Reform UK has received a £9m donation from Christopher Harborne, a British-Thai businessman and technology investor based in Thailand. The gist of Paul Kavanagh’s article is that the size of Reform UK’s election campaign war chest gives it an unfair advantage, effectively buying seats in the Scottish Parliament. Furthermore, it is purchasing those seats with money donated by someone who doesn’t even live in the UK, far less Scotland.

If the 2026 Scottish general election were to be used as the trigger for a process leading to a proper constitutional referendum as per the #ScottishUDI strategy, then the SNP probably wouldn't be involved in the 2029(?) UK general election. Scotland's independence would almost certainly have been restored by that time.
