I hear of another cost imposed on poorer students' families: Better looking/higher priced uniforms.

As I hear it a committee of parents select the uniform design.

And select a higher cost school uniform as it "looks better".

But the parents on the committee are "higher disposable income" parents who don't feel the financial pressure that the decision will put on poorer families.

“Currently, learning to tie a tie for secondary school is almost a rite of passage in the UK.”

Secondary?! What?! They are usually part of Primary School uniform last I heard.

The slippery slope to tieless uniform options started when I was at Primary aeons ago, but I know that it’s still an option where I went.

(It was part of our knot learning last year at Cubs, so I am aware they are in decline.)
