Hanging out with jumping spiders at work today. They are incredibly intelligent and friendly. We relocated them to some established trees so they would stay out of high-traffic areas. #jumpingspider #treenursery #nature #savetheinsects
Went for a walk across the fields & thrilled to count 14 butterflies of various species. Still not as many as there should be but better than I had feared.
Our garden is a mass of bees, partly because of our honey bee nest in a tree-stump & the foxgloves & snapdragons that attract bumblebees but have seen few butterflies this year. So thrilled to have done a fairly encouraging butterfly count on our walk.

Birds are disappearing at an alarming rate due to insect decline. Insects are essential for birds as food, pollination and decomposition. Without insects, we could lose up to 60% of all bird species within a decade.

The vanishing swifts from the sky above my shed are a sad omen

The birds flew in on cue, but there were so few of them. The reason? The catastrophic decline in our insect populations

Insects are not just annoying. They’re essential. A new study reveals that the climate crisis is driving insects to higher altitudes, threatening their survival and the ecosystems they support. Insects pollinate plants, decompose organic matter, and feed other animals. Without them, life on Earth would collapse. We need to act now to save our insects and our planet.
