Varnish is a proxy server.

I appreciate the sentiment, but even the ones not owned by billionaires are still DEGRADED by them.
1. Email: have to use major provider or go to spam bin.

Denial of Service (DoS) attacks against Mastodon servers raise the bar on the workload and technical skills of the people maintaining the servers.
This can lead to consolidation of servers. For example, CloudFlare could wind up hosting many of the larger Mastodon instances, as they get attacked. Following this path, the DoS attackers "win".
Perhaps best if instead of consolidation, more federation is used, and more distribted servers are set up. More techs can learn to host. :)
This sounds nice, but it *centralizes* what is supposed to be a distributed network.
If it stays free / libre / open it will be great.
If it turns into a bunch of proprietary apps with ChatGPT connecting to corporate Mastodon servers, I'm out.
If it is using ChatGPT, it is also sending your data to Microsoft.
Would be a sad day if the average Mastodon client is just a human coaxing ChatGPT, feeding all the data to one of the largest transnational corporations in history.
I think we should be vigilant to #SaveMastodon !
