Delighted that #Illinois is finally ending cash bail.
For context, unlike what some right-wing crazies will say, the law is not a “Purge” law that legalizes criminal behavior. Nor will dangerous suspects be let loose on the streets. It continues to require that judges evaluate issues of public safety and the risk of flight — and detain people on that basis alone. It simply gets rid of the circumstance where someone is detained because they can’t post a $200,000 bail.

On the Safe-T Act (Illinois Bail Reform):
Nobody writing these stories ever makes the most important argument in favor of bail reform...incarceration in jail is MORE criminogenic than release on bail.
In other words, not only are rates of re-arrest the SAME as prior to bail reform...incarcerating people pretrial itself increases crime
This is about as good as articles ever get, but they always leave that argument out for some reason #BailReform #SafeTAct #Illinois #cjreform #jail
