Today we recognise the anaesthesia teams whose airway, ventilation, pain-control and hemodynamic skills are decisive in emergencies, major surgery, cancer care and childbirth. Despite 170 years since the first public ether demonstration (16 Oct 1846, W.T.G. Morton), an estimated 500 million people still lack access to safe anaesthesia; investing in trained personnel, monitoring equipment and essential medicines is critical to save lives and improve outcomes in health crises.
You can help by thanking local anaesthesia professionals, sharing this message to raise awareness about anaesthesia access and emergency preparedness, and advocating for resources and multidisciplinary training in your facility.
