On the Bay Area regional transit measure: "A gross receipts tax [rather than sales tax] would ensure that the largest and wealthiest companies contribute their fair share to the infrastructure that helps make their record profits possible. This approach avoids placing an additional burden on families already struggling with the crushing cost of living in the Bay Area." #SB63

And these businesses can afford it: they've just gotten huge Trump tax cuts. At some point, we have to stand up to the bullies and stop doing sales tax for everything. But because a regional ballot measure requires state authorization, we first have to ask our reps to allow us to do a GRT. #SB63

Why SPUR Is Supporting SB 63, a Tax Measure to Keep Transit Alive

Drastic cuts in the Bay Area’s transit services are all but guaranteed absent a regional transit funding measure. Senate Bill 63 would authorize several counties to place a tax measure on the November 2026 ballot in an effort to avoid such cuts. SPUR strongly supports the bill because it represents a practical and politically realistic framework to keep the region’s largest transit operators from going over a fiscal cliff.

SPUR

Do you remember what it was like when #VTA went on strike? That was a terrible glimpse of the future if #publictransit isn’t supported in the Bay Area.

#SB63 is a new bill that would create new revenue across multiple counties. Currently, #SantaClaraCounty has not opted in to supporting this bill. Next Tuesday, at 6:00 PM, SCC4Transit will join Transbay and others in rallying to encourage officials to join the measure.

A bill that would authorize a Bay Area regional sales tax measure on the November 2026 ballot passed in the state Senate and is now heading to the Assembly. There‘s a reason #TheCrownAct #SB63 never really makes it to the floor of the #KyGA #KYga23 and it’s not hard to guess. So much hard work by so many young people who are asking for something so simple, and right. I remember the beginning, at least here, and of course after I started paying attention, which I‘m sure was late. The most basic plea from the most sincere and hardworking young people who have carried this message to Frankfort and beyond. It‘s time.
