Today we filed a federal lawsuit challenging Florida's anti-immigrant law #SB1718 -focuses on Section 10, which criminalizes the transportation of individuals into Florida who entered the US w/o inspection. The complaint argues that FL's unilateral federal immigration reg. is unlawful & lacks fair notice... -American Immigration Council, the Southern Poverty Law Center, American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU of Florida, & Americans for Immigrant Justice. #ImmigrationReform https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/litigation/challenging-florida-unconstitutional-anti-immigrant-law

HAPPENING NOW: A large protest against SB 1718 In Fort Myers, Florida. These seemingly random work stoppages are exacerbating the negative economic impacts on the state. The organic nature of these actions makes them harder to track but their impacts are undeniable. More to come.

Florida employers are freaking out about the effects of SB 1718 which is causing their latino/latinx workers to flee the State.

There's nothing more ironic than a bunch of legislators who voted for the bill to say "this bill is just designed to scare you" trying to appease a bunch of people are guess what... scared by the prospect of being forced to produce papers and prove their status because they aren't righty whities.

Please boost: Ken Goodman & I call on bioethicists & health care facilities to take action to ameliorate Florida's #SB1718. It requires hospitals to ask about citizenship status, an action designed to create fear among immigrant patients and potentially prevent them from seeking needed care in a timely fashion. #medmastodon #bioethics https://www.thehastingscenter.org/bioethicists-and-health-care-institutions-must-act-against-floridas-anti-immigrant-law/?fbclid=IwAR0LHwVIndR-GblLw5-ziUdWZ3qvWbhEu3dEA95-nP_6RsxcuUtugMOWUCo
Bioethicists and Health Care Institutions Must Act Against Florida’s Anti-Immigrant Law

Florida’s new anti-immigrant law, SB 1718, has escaped widespread notice, despite the way it will undermine the mission—and core identity--of not-for-profit hospitals as caring institutions that promote the health of the community. Bioethics and health care institutions must take action.

RT @mayatcontreras: 1. @RonDeSantisFL’s bigotry will destroy Florida’s economy. FL’s 47,500 farms bring an annual income of approx 7 billion; construction contributes over $58 billion annually. Most of this work is done by the skilled labor of undocumented workers. #SB1718 https://t.co/L1EBkgUpK9 https://t.co/UwMbywSSyT

I keep seeing these videos of all these giant construction sites in Florida that have like 2 people working because the state passed an anti-immigrant bill SB 1718. It’s amazing how many people are in dangerous and precarious employment with no protections :( #sb1718
