"Fifty years fighting the Klan – now Trump’s DOJ targets anti-fascist investigators

The Southern Poverty Law Centre, for more than five decades devoted to tracking white supremacist and far-right extremist organistions, has pleaded not guilty to federal fraud charges brought by the Trump Justice Department.

The charges have been condemned by the SPLC’s leadership as a politically motivated assault on anti-fascist research.

The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in Alabama. It charges the organisation with eleven counts including wire fraud, false statements to a federally insured bank, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

SPLC interim chief executive Bryan Fair entered the not-guilty plea at a Montgomery federal court hearing on Thursday with a tentative trial date set for 5 October 2026."

I knew it was happening still it gives me a special kind of sick to my stomach to read a US.Gov website and find it full of lies. #SPLC is a client I take donation calls. Their slogan is help fight hate so of course the current Hate based administration is after them. Guy just called to find out how much of his donation will go to the KKK and I burst out laughing. Really fascinating and in-depth (i.e. long) look at the Southern Poverty Law Centre and associated Change The Terms coalition's work in the global fight against terrorism, hate speech and online misinformation, including their position in the financial system and how they've used that to disrupt funding to those groups.

The author clearly has positions on topics, so read with a critical eye.
