This will mean nothing (I imagine) to anyone outside the UK and probably won’t mean much even here to younger people; but I am thrilled at the news that Hollyoaks is going to have a Brookside crossover episode.

The idea of Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston reprising their roles as Bobby and Sheila is just wonderful.

Will a bit of Jim and Barbara (‘The Royle Family’) creep in too I wonder?

They can’t have imagined, back when Brookside started, that the pair of them would end up virtually a double act!

Aw... #RIP Peter Martin (of 'The Royle Family'), the near-silent husband of the world's chattiest neighbour.

I always remember the scene in which he takes - is it a Mars bar? - some kind of chocolate bar from in front of Jim and eats it. It's impossible to explain why it was so funny unless you've seen it.

And I remember him singing an Irish folk ballad at the end of one episode.
