[Part 2]
the sun rose in the west this morning,
weirdly i'd had that phrase running
on an inner lane, of many,
in my morning traffic-jammed mind
while the sky was still all shades
of blue and greys.
it had that buzzing
-the phrase-
that doesn't bother, a ring like a doorbell
when you were a kid
and a friend was coming over, and it
just stays without reason
until it finds or makes one.
gazing off an embankment
that overlooks industrial and a river
and a slowly coming into view skyline.
but this view is west,
i was sure of it.
checked my phone maps compass,
and like i am for sure no navigator
but if you are facing north then west
is on your left, right?
reason found a rhyme,
and i watched a fiery glow turn
the underside of purpley-blue
rolling coil clouds into a growing glow
of oranges and pinks turning red
along the brightest edges.
those clouds were moving...
south? like i said,
the sun's coming up in the west,
so your guess is maybe best,
but they were moving, like waves
seen from underneath,
each in their own swirl.
behind them,
down to the horizon line,
descended a swelling triangle
that seemed as much a mountain
as the sun wasn't eastbound,
yet its edges melted away like clouds
and dark grey, that for so long
seemed untouched by the fire blazing
outward everywhere else
in the mourning sky.
the peak, if it was a mountain
and had one,
hid behind the oilslick fire
and was lost.
i left as the rosy hue began to stain
the calmer, heavier blue
dark clouds above me;
away from waves
seeking a shoreline of sky, i had been
under a calmer bit;
where waves surely still pass through,
but the depths leave an almost
thickness to the movement.
fire was coming though,
right overhead,
and not as if i could surface,
so to speak, anyway
but it still seemed the wrong move
to stay there and just watch.
the right move was also not
to get lost in steps again
until the sun was near halfway done
it's backwards journey,
but none of this was about good decisions.
beautiful sunrise though,
i'd get a real compass, but
i'm too tired to catch tricks in magic.
