I just finished reading Spin by Robert Charles Wilson.

Early in the book, the stars disappear. In the cosmic-scale story that follows, Wilson paints a picture of humanity's and individual humans' reactions to it which feels very real.

This is the first book by him that I've read, and I plan to look for more.

The edition I read came with a lovely introduction by @scalzi, which I read last.
