Die Transfăgărășan gilt als eine der spektakulärsten Hochgebirgsstraßen Europas und wurde in den 1970er-Jahren gebaut. Allerdings bleib sie im Winter monatelang gesperrt, so dass ich Mitte März nur ein sehr kurzes Stück darauf unterwegs sein kann, bis die Schneemassen die Zugänglichkeit beschränken.

Gold was discovered in White Oaks in 1879. It became the 2nd largest city in the territory by the 1880s, with a population of 4,000+. The town's fortunes declined when the gold mines waned and a planned railroad was never built. There are a few historic buildings and the No Scum Allowed Saloon.
