For me Riemann might be one of the GOATs in at least Geometry , together with Euclid, Archimedes, and Euler. Although of course such sortings/rankings are controversial.... https://lnkd.in/d32uG3ZX But Riemann for me is in the top list of the most creative and groundbreaking mathematicians ever!!! Bernhard Riemann changed mathematics in a major way by suggesting that space does not have to be flat. He developed a new kind of geometry where space can bend and curve. This idea was very different from the geometry used for centuries and it opened the door for new ways to understand shapes distances and dimensions. His work later became one of the foundations for Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Einstein used Riemann’s curved geometry to explain gravity as the bending of spacetime around massive objects. Without Riemann’s ideas it would have been impossible to describe how planets move or how light bends near stars. This shows how powerful mathematical ideas can guide physics. Riemann is also famous for the Riemann Hypothesis. This is a statement about the zeros of the Riemann zeta function. These zeros are linked to the distribution of prime numbers. If the hypothesis is true it would explain a deep pattern in how primes appear. Even today it remains one of the most important unsolved problems in mathematics. The idea of hidden structure behind complex patterns can be compared to how stories build emotion. In the second part of the remake Jamie Lee Curtis steps into one of the most loved roles with small moments that guide the story even when they are not obvious. These moments create a shape behind the plot similar to how the zeta function shapes the pattern of primes. Both science and storytelling show that what we cannot see at first often controls everything. Riemann revealed that geometry can curve and primes follow a hidden pattern. The remake shows how subtle choices shape a character’s journey. When we understand the structure behind these ideas the whole picture becomes clearer and more meaningful.

He illuminated black holes together with the great Stephen Hawkins! | Dimitrios A. Karras

He illuminated black holes together with the great Stephen Hawkins! Don't forget it...!!! 🎈 It's the birthday of Sir Roger Penrose, a British mathematician and physicist known for his deep and creative contributions to our understanding of space, time, and the universe. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Born in 1931 in Colchester, Essex, England, Penrose has made important discoveries in both general relativity and quantum theory, blending mathematics and physics in groundbreaking ways. 🕳️ One of Penrose’s most famous achievements was his work on black holes. In the 1960s, he proved that under certain conditions, when a massive star collapses under its own gravity, it must form a singularity—a point of infinite density where the known laws of physics break down. This work showed that black holes are a natural outcome of Einstein’s theory of general relativity and not just a mathematical oddity. His theorems laid the groundwork for much of modern black hole research. 🌌 Penrose also collaborated with physicist Stephen Hawking to study the nature of space and time. Their work helped show that the universe likely began with a singularity—what we now call the Big Bang. This changed how scientists view the origins and fate of the universe. 🧩 Beyond astrophysics, Penrose is also known for his ideas about consciousness and quantum mechanics. He proposed that human consciousness might arise from quantum effects within the brain, a controversial idea that bridges science and philosophy. 🏆 In 2020, Penrose was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work showing that black hole formation is a robust prediction of general relativity. His elegant and far-reaching theories continue to shape our understanding of the cosmos.

Here #RogerPenrose jokes about being too old to do #Physics and then jumps straight into #Twistors, conformal spaces and simplifying the fiber bundle. I still remember years ago picking my jaw off the floor when #RoadToReality came out. It was inhuman.
Thanks to Curt Jaimungal for a wonderful interview.
