So I have had this second screen for a few weeks now and it has made me want to use my
#RetroidPocket5 less than before. Dont get me wrong the screen itself is not bad, in fact quite the oppiste as it is a nice little USB-C touch screen with a passtrhough port at the top for charging.
It just is a pain to have attached while playing as it adds an awkward amount of weight while holding the system. Not to mention it blocks buttons on the top of the system (though Retroid did a software patch to for easier volume control through quick settings menu). Not to mention the passive power draw even when system is in sleep mode is unreal.
The software is kinda there, as there is a fork of melonDS, the
#NDS emulator, that allows for external screen support and the popular
#3DS emulator Azahar supports the external screen out of the box so it is not too much work to get it working with native dual screen systems. Though for everyday game playing on one screen while having a guide or something on the other leave a lot to be desired. I would even argue not even worth having.
I don't completely regret the purchase as I stated earlier it is a nice screen on it's own, and a welcome surprise that Retroid is adding support for a system instead on releasing just another random handheld like many of these company's do. It is just is wish there was a better way to go about this.
