Once again at #ReferenceDesk for the #SundayLibrarian shift. I will be here 'til 9p or so.

Gap in #ReferenceDesk coverage; student worker absent, so I am putting in some time this afternoon.
Online search has really gotten awful. Trying to find a basic article on topic, all I get is bs from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and other shitty videos. Not what I nor my student need.
Ugh.
Once in a while I get some out of state reference query that can be, well, interesting. While I am happy to work on it and provide an answer to the best of my abilities, I do wonder why aren't they talking to one of their local librarians?
I ask because the question did require some degree of local (as in their state) knowledge a local librarian might be better able to access. But hey, as I said, I am happy to help best I can. (e)
Another Sunday at #ReferenceDesk. I have a research consult later this evening, some classes to prep for next week, and some administrivia.
Keeps me off the streets. 🛣️
Whirlwind of a day. Not bad, but very busy with various things including teaching a class, a research consult, meeting with my student workers, and some other stuff.
Hey, keeps me off the streets.
However, no #Tarot card this eve. We'll try again tomorrow.
Working #ReferenceDesk. My student worker did not show, so I am running the show on my own at this hour. Whether virtual or in person, I got you covered.
#SuperbOwl 🦉 time tends to be lower traffic, but we still get some traffic. I have 2 consults scheduled.
> The Largest Historical Dictionary of English Slang Now Free Online: Covers 500 Years of the “Vulgar Tongue”

'The three volumes of Green's Dictionary of Slang demonstrate the sheer scope of a lifetime of research by Jonathon Green, the leading slang lexicographer of our time. A remarkable collection of this often reviled but endlessly fascinating area of the English language, it covers slang from the past five centuries right up to the present day, from all the different English-speaking countries and regions.
Student comes to #ReferenceDesk about book. Book is textbook, and turns out it is on reserves. No biggie. They comment they wanted to get copy, but sells for about $100. I almost fall off my chair since it is a trade paperback. I check, damn book is OOP.
Maybe teacher needs to update lesson plans.
Side note, I was not able to hoist the flag on this one btw. 🏴☠️
