Today's tea comes from the backlog I showed earlier. The next tea I upload today will not be coming from that backlog because it came by surprise. (This is foreshadowing.)
This tea is a 红梅茶 (hóng méi chá or red plum tea) from 贵州雷山 (Leishan, Guizhou) which is the heart of 苗族 (Miao Nationality) territory. It is one of the economically deprived areas of China that the current government is now working on developing, and the Ali group has targeted with its philanthropy and charity program. In this program, local products are given a promotional boost: the two 50g packets of fine tea I got cost me 0.14¢ US (yes ¢, not $). The intent is that the promotion motivates people to try things outside of their sphere of familiarity in the hopes that they will enjoy the result enough to buy more.
It worked.
This is a delightful little tea, though it is very finicky and not at all what I would term a "beginner's tea". In the hands of someone experienced, however, it produces a very nice brew and I will be buying Leishan tea again. (It doesn't hurt that I really like the Miao as a culture, mind.)
As is usual the alt text has more explanations, and Mastodon users will have to click through to get all the pictures.
