Yup, 'tis chilly in SK this morning.

One of my favourite stories to tell folks from warmer climes is when they landed one of the rovers on Mars, the news stories about it were full of "OMG, the temperature on Mars is -42C!".

And it was -44C here that day. "Officially colder than Mars!"

"It's a bit nippy out there today, eh?"

"Ya. Best not leave the two-four in the car over lunch."

The people from the cold parts of Canada are used to the cold, so we don't complain.

The people from the not-cold parts of Canada don't come to the cold parts of Canada, so they don't complain.

Americans who come to the cold parts of Canada are later found as icicles in melting snowbanks in April, so they don't complain.

This morning's wind chill where I am: -44C. That's -47F.

@ksaj

To be fair, in much of Canada that is equally true of November, December, February, and March ... 😜

Keep in mind that there is a large chunk of Canada - by geographic area if not by population - where heat pumps are not sufficient in winter - most of them don't work below -15C at all, and are pretty miserably inefficient at the bottom end of their working ranges.

There are currently programs trying to develop heat pumps for -35C -- but for much of the Canadian prairie, and all the territories, that's still insufficient.
