Trump, national-capitalism at bay

For anyone in doubt, Donald Trump has at least made things clear: the right exists and it speaks loudly. As has often been the case in the past, it takes the form of a mixture of violent nationalism, social conservatism and unbridled economic liberalism. We could call Trumpism national-liberalism, or more accurately, national-capitalism. Trump's …
Continuer la lecture de « Trump, national-capitalism at bay »

And by "critical second reading" I don't mean an important second reading, I mean that this time I'm going to be searching for flaws in the argument. My earlier study as a younger man of von Mises and Hayek ought to have prepared me for this role, after all, no? They bamboozled me the first time, so this time I'd like to make sure Piketty isn't just bamboozling me again the way I've been bamboozled before.

I ought to be summarizing chapters from Brief History of Equality for the #ReadPiketty hashmark thingy, but I keep obsessively reading articles about human geography on wikipedia in two languages instead.
I have been so slow. I realized that I’ve been shirking my #ReadPiketty project because lately I’ve been reading only nonfiction and not any fiction. And then I tried to read some fiction, and finally realized that nothing was going to happen in that direction until I reread HILD so I can read MENEWOOD. 10 years between the release of the first and second parts, after all

And now this is reminding me of the toot about DOING THE THING vs NOT DOING THE THING that I boosted recently. So yeah, I'm temporarily shirking my #ReadPiketty duties. I need to make a fresh read on each chapter before I summarize it.
#ReadPiketty is on my mind. I mean, I've already read it. But I kind of like the idea of trying to give a brief precis of each chapter, especially about the good policy ideas in each chapter, on this here Fediversal medium. And Piketty has written a lot of chapters to summarize! I'm intending to continue from here with more from Brief History of Equality, but then I may get back to those bigger, beefier books he wrote before that one. Like I said, lots of chapters.

Oh right. Yes, I did finish reading Brief History of Equality last spring. Sorry I stopped posting about it: I got into a very interesting but mildly traumatic employment situation. I should go over some of the more interesting policy proposals in the later chapters.
