Review: South Africa’s Clicks branded Double Edge Razor Blades for R13 for 5 Blades

I just spotted these blades a week ago at Clicks in South Africa, and thought I’d better buy them to try out, seeing we have a really dismal selection of blades in retail stores in South Africa. At R12.99 (US$0.72) for the pack of 5 blades, I was no ...continues

@freemo @05437f7b89c5ac8ce420493d93f47c9c992c92a40c176bc1bc26efa28582ad72 here is my gear for #traditionalshaving / #wetshaving. The #razorblades are sorted from left to the right as the more agressive to the softest (this is highly subjective), just in case you would like to vary pleasures 😜. They are all about 0.2 € except the two #japanese #blades that are more than 0.5 € per #blade. My current top 3 are #feather (trying to replace them with the #kai - #zeroplastic) #bolzano and #tiger platinium. Min 3-4 #shaves per blade.

The #razors are made in #germany, a #merkur 23C model designed in 1920s and a #böker #shavette made in #solligen. The body is in olive tree wood.

Worse than #razorblades or #cyanide, these #Twix were #stale! (If my cold is just bad enough that I can’t tell the difference)

Imported DE Razor Blades for R2.41 ($0.18) vs local Gillette Fusion at R62.37 ($4.65) per cartridge - What do you Shave with?

So I already knew that good quality double-edged razor blades (like the Derby Extra Super Stainless) were going to be a lot cheaper than Gillette Fusion blades, but I was also interested to see today it is cheaper to buy the Derby blades via Amazon import than through local online retailers in South Africa (inc delivery, duty and VAT to front door). So I just bought two year's worth of razor blades.

For me using double-edged blades is not only a lot cheaper, they are also environmentally friendly (I recycle the plastic cases as well as stainless steel blades), and of course they give a better shave than Gilette's cartridge blades (no ingrown hairs and no chemical soaps).

The price comparison worked out as follows:
* Gillette Fusion 8 Pack = R499 ($37.31) or per blade R62.37 ($4.66)
* Local Astra DE blades 100 = R400 ($29.85) or per blade R4.00 ($0.30)
* Amazon Derby DE blades 100 = R241 ($18) or per blade R2.41 ($0.18)

Exchange rate calculated at R13.40/US$ and Astra blades being similar in price & shave to the Derby blades.

So what do you use to shave with?
