How to Detect Phone Spying Tech (with Cooper Quintin)
Joseph speaks to #CooperQuintin , a #security researcher & senior public interest technologist with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). Quintin is one of the people behind #Rayhunter , an easy to install tool that can detect nearby #IMSIcatchers. This tech, sometimes known as #Stingrays , poses as a fake #cellphone tower to track a phone’s location, intercept calls & texts, & can sometimes even deliver #malware

Busy #amateurradio adjacent day yesterday.
Flashed #rayhunter to a recently procured Orbic
Installed a local instance of #openhamclock on a Raspberry Pi 5
And while I was at it and setting a static address for the Pi I installed #pihole as well.
this #FinalStraw podcast episode interviews #CooperQuintin who has developed #rayhunter . a $20 device to detect #CellSiteSimulators aka #stingrays which are tech tools pigs use to track activists to the exact location they're at.
essential info for anyone on the radar of authorities for whatever reason.

Wow @eff could not have made the #RayHunter install any easier. If you can unzip a file, connect to a network, and run a script, you can flash an Orbic in seconds. I just did. The most difficult part was figuring out where the Orbic kept its admin password. Turned out it was the default Wifi password. (And I would have know that if I had #RTFM )
Great work team!
Decided to roleplay as an infosec nerd today and set up a Rayhunter on the usual Orbic RC400L device:

Next step, actually attending a protest.

Rayhunter is a new open source tool we’ve created that runs off an affordable mobile hotspot that we hope empowers everyone, regardless of technical skill, to help search out cell-site simulators (CSS) around the world.
