HOW IT WORKS - OVERHEAD LINE TEST TRAINS (SLIGHT RETURN)

A while back I did a thread on OLE test trains which you can read here: https://mas.to/@25kV/110895234449246235 More recently, SPL have put together a further iteration of the FrankenTrain™ to test the next stage of Midland Mainline Electrification (MMLE), & today they kindly invited me and a colleague on board to observe high speed testing of the new OLE between Wigston and Kettering North Junction.

HOW IT WORKS (AND WHEN IT DOESN’T) – DISCONTINUOUS ELECTRIFICATION

Something I get asked about A LOT is #DiscontinuousElectrification. A typical comment on social media will be something like “well with battery technology so readily available we can just electrify the easy bits and run on battery in between…”
