I’ve inherited a complex #Nagios system that is monitoring 20k services.

We won’t trivially be migrating away from Nagios any time soon.

I need to monitor the number (`COUNT(*)`) of services in the following states:

• 0 - Ok
• 1 - Warning
• 2 - Critical
• 3 - Unknown

… and total.

I need data to track down an issue that is occasionally happening that causes unknowns to start climbing into high triple / low quadruple digits.

I need a tool for my current use case. #Perl, #MySQL, and #RRD make up that tool.

I greenfielded some #Perl, #MySQL, and #RRD today to monitor an aspect of a #Nagios server.

MySQL has the Nagios data I want details from which I want to monitor, record, and graph.

RRD is where I’m storing the counts that I’m extracting from MySQL. It’s also how I’ll graph the data.

every now and then I'm like "I want to learn a new metrics/timeseries db" ... then I start doing that and I'm like "ughhh, I've been doing this in at least 6 different ways over the last 15 years, why do it again"

I really miss Graphite

This time fixed a couple of issues in wonderful #RRD4J library - the most comprehensive implementation of round-robin database in #Java.

#rrd stores data in a way that prevents the storage from unlimited growth what makes it perfect for aggregated #timeseries.

OK I am trying to write a thingy that scrapes transceiver values and puts them in an #RRD. I have most of it written already (in python) but am new to #rrdtool and expect there to be some challenges. Incidentally the stuff I need is not available via #snmp hence the scraper. Anyone with tips or experience please let me know

@[email protected] has published an #OpenNMS collector for #CodiMD status data.

Details like number of notes, online users, etc. #Grafana boards are upcoming as well!

can haz moar #openwrt projex:

I'd like the (larger, moar capable) turris to serve as a #collectd / #rrd monitoring server for the (smaller, space-constrained) modem.

I've just discovered #DLNA, and am looking for ways that the Turris could be a #mediaServer *especially* for audio materials (books, music, internet radio) through the house.

Getting both boxes to talk to a remot #syslog server as well.
