For a while, I'm taking a break from tech, instead focusing on family and hobbies (jazz, coffee, outdoors). Long term, I'm not sure whether I'll return to tech in some position that aligns well (small, collaborative, fun, worker co-op, good cause, etc.), or pivot to one of my hobbies, or teaching, or something. The blank slate is both terrifying and exciting.
All I know is I'll want my next steps to center belonging, access, autonomy, and equality. (2/2)
Welp, after 28 years in tech, and 18 years at Google, I've quit. Possibly quitting tech for good. I've been very privileged that the majority of my career has been at the center of that "ikigai" Venn diagram, but it seems that era is over. Likewise privileged that I have the financial cushion to take this step. (1/2)
Stor dag i dag! Med en innsats på 27 kroner så vant eg 50. Pantelotteriet FTFW! Nå kan ingen komme å si det at det ikkje lønner seg å drikke Hard Seltzer' i ukedagene lenger!

"I #quitmyjob at 29 and #traveledsolo. I didn't tell my parents until I'd finished my #businessplan."
Viral phenomena like #QuitMyJob and photos of handwritten "We all quit" signs hint at the true scale of the great resignation, and they inspire others to do the same. There's good indications that employers are finally responding with better pay, benefits and conditions, but there's no reason to think they've had a true change of heart. If the labor market changes, they'll claw back those gains in a heartbeat.
