i know about and have made the Tawari shirt, but anyone have any other recommendations for 'women's' patterns with a no bust pattern piece option?

If anyone else who has had top surgery but still wants to make "women's" sewing patterns has been looking, apparently the adjustment we're looking for is BMX (comes from Bilateral Mastectomy WIthout Reconstruction)

just sharing in #QueerSew in case anyone else was looking for it because it's been taking me awhile to figure out. note that the language is all centered around cancer survivors and is very gendered

shirt update: i got the pattern pieces glued together (i use rice paste because it won't come apart when i roll up the big pattern sheet).

Today, I got some interfacing for the Tawari. I need to measure myself and figure out the size and then trace the pattern onto tissue. I like doing this and keeping the assembled pattern as a master, especially when I'm figuring out sizing and alterations.

and for a future make, I got this nice lightweight linen/cotton blend for my Huon Shirt which is supposed to be like an artist's smock. i feel like this one could go very feminine if I'm not careful so this navy grid is a bit more neutral I think

#pdx crafters! The lovely Bolt fabric store/sewing studio has begun hosting a weekly Community Craft Night! I went to check it out tonight with some friends. Word is clearly not out yet, but it's going to be good. The space is nice: big, well lit, warm, couches, cutting tables, and some sewing machines (first come, first serve) The host is lovely. I will be back just to hang out with her. RSVPs are encouraged but not required: https://www.boltfabricboutique.com/studio-events/friday-community-building-melt-the-ice-hat-8gsab

my size and proportions have changed a lot since i was sewing a lot and i used to feel like i really had a good idea of how stuff was going to fit. so i'm a little nervous because it's all new now. i used to have to do a full-bust adjustment on everything and now i'll have to do a non-bust adjustment if there isn't a special piece.

much less dart finagling in my future

the main reason i don't get my patterns large format-printed is i'm impatient and i don't have to go anywhere if i assemble it myself

though i really need to replace my very bad Martha Stewart paper slicer. If you use the guide, it's not actually square

assembling the Muna and Broad Tawari pattern because when i started making it last time, i didn't need the no-bust option and have misplaced most of it. So starting over to make sure i have everything. this is going to be my first garment since i had top surgery (aside from minor repairs and alterations)

So I saw this fabric at IKEA the other day - we went to look at ideas for book shelves and it caught my eye. Apparently it's been around for a while.

Anyway this is my first attempt at making clothing from scratch. I've mended things before, and sewed a hat pattern but this was my own self-drafted pattern based off of a pair of loungy pants I have.

The elastic waistband is a hot mess. I should have sewn the band in it's entirety then attached it to the pants, but instead I sewed it like you would a binding *while pinning the elastic* and it was a nightmare and broke two needles. Next time I know better.

At some point I will probably unpick the stitches and redo it, but other than that I'm really happy with the result. All of the main seams are overstiched French seams so they should be pretty durable.

something that has come up is "why should i use a hashtag if all my sewing is queer?"

the point is to be able to click "Follow Hashtag" and see everyone who is using it, without having to follow them. this is also similar to how the movie watchalongs work. note that the posts have to be set to public to be listed

(also yes Sew Queer is already the name of a website and blog and instagram account. i don't want to step on any toes, plus I am SEW TIRED of sewing puns)
here's an interview with Shannon of Sew Queer (no affiliation but Shannon is cool)
