i know about and have made the Tarawi shirt, but anyone have any other recommendations for 'women's' patterns with a no bust pattern piece option?
#sewing #queerSew
available in plus size*

the reason i ask for 'women's' is because i'm pretty curvy and women's still fits better, and also i'm really really short so i don't have to do as many alterations

also menswear is not as interesting usually

@forestine so I've been very happy with the Gilbert top by Helen's Closet. Though I don't do the tie version, just the short sleeves and the straight hem. It's darted so not what you're after but as plus size goes, pretty good, so possibly the dartless Cameron might work (https://helensclosetpatterns.com/collections/tops/products/cameron-button-up) though not sure if it falls enough in women's patterns.
M&B waikerie is also dartless, I've made the 1 twice and wear it open normally
@forestine I'm blanking on the trousers, cami and shorts but they're all m&b apart from the grey cami
@triploidtree thanks, these are nice makes!
@forestine They're comfy and definitely plus size. Not sure if you want to small bust adjust the Gilbert, the plus size is drafted for D-ish. but they do actually draft plus size beyond the bust too, so maybe their other top might work.
@forestine Have you seen @freesewing patterns yet? Their tops come with bust/no-bust options and can be custom-sized.
@evergreensewing @forestine @freesewing lol I also sent them freesewing patterns today in response to a completely different post 😂 I'm glad to see other people posting about it, it's basically my favorite sewing resource I've ever found
@raphaelmorgan @evergreensewing i made a couple of things back when they were called make my pattern and i got super stressed out by all the measurements and was convinced i had messed up a single number. not sure why it doesn't appeal to me
@forestine @evergreensewing I can understand if having to take all your measurements is a turnoff for you, it's kind of a pain in the ass sometimes. I'll filter by pattern but then each pattern still usually has a ton of required measurements. I wonder how inclusive their public measurement sets are, or if there's yet a way to put in some measurements and estimate the rest... If I have time/remember, I'm gonna check, and see if I can contribute to that if not!
@raphaelmorgan @evergreensewing i should give them another try, i'd like to see if some larger folks have made their stuff. the thing i like about muna and broad is the designer is fat and designs things not just based on measurements, but on how people move and aesthetics specific to larger bodies which is cool. like i am also a bit sus of very small pattern designers who grade up until i can see some good examples
@forestine @evergreensewing that's a good point! I've seen some examples on the showcase that make me believe a lot of these patterns look good on fat people and many body types, but I had to scroll a while because most of the people posting their makes are thin, and I know a lot of the designers are as well. So I understand the hesitation there. I hope you find what you're looking for wherever it ends up being 💜
@forestine @evergreensewing the latter would be kind of difficult because we'd have to make sure not to be making the assumptions that mainstream clothing manufacturers do of proportions, but hopefully if people know our proportions vary from the mainstream we'll choose measurements based on that. Like I could do waist, "seat", bust, and a couple height measurements and let it guess the rest and it would probably be fine bc those are the proportions that differ from the average the most

@raphaelmorgan @evergreensewing yeah i have drafted my own patterns from... what was that book that people use

and it's all based on standards and math. so if you go with that without starting from a larger block, things can get dicey

kind of interested in layla's book on pattern drafting that just came out

but also sometimes i just like to not

@forestine and to be totally cheeky (just because I scrolled through so many pictures and keep getting reminded of them...) the M&B Noice Jeans have no bust pattern pieces of any type ;) (ignore me, I should go to bed) (but damn, if you have to wear jeans, these are great)
@triploidtree i've been thinking about trying those sometime. i haven't really seen any other plus sized jean patterns and the retail ones available are kinda grim
@triploidtree i did make the sculthorpe pants and wore them completely out. i liked the way those fit

@forestine i love my sculthorpes too, but not as much as the noice, and the Glebe pants are my number one (I love wide leg), I've made them as shorts and knits, they're too handy.

The hardest part of the Noice is finding the right fabric. The instructions are excellent with some good pause points for fitting

@triploidtree i did my scuthorpes colour blocked so it looks like the pocket goes all the way to the floor

but the corduroy is now bald

@forestine oooooh, that sounds excellent. Would a visible colour blocked repair work? Resurrecting trousers feels almost as good as finishing a new pair
@triploidtree maybe but i also need a larger size so i'll probably just make a new pair
@forestine yay! New pants! Also good.
