A great Canadian band from the #90s , and the country’s first band to sign to Sub Pop.

This is a more #psychedelic and rocking version of Eric’s Trip than previous efforts.

If you listen to “Sun Coming Up”, it sounds like a more mean and muscular Sebadoh.

They’re not a band I re-visit a lot, but when I do, I really enjoy it.

The Lou Barlow vibes are strong with Rick White. At least in this one, anyway.

The journal Psychological Science totally revamped their review and decision criteria towards good scientific practice (instead of novelty and significance).

E.g., the reviewer instructions say:

"Please do not assume that findings from studies that are not preregistered were the result of a detailed a priori plan - that would be unfair to authors who allow us to see their plans by preregistering them. [...] We do not want to create a situation where authors who preregister have their submissions evaluated more harshly than authors who do not preregister.“

Hear hear!

I consider them (now) to be a real top journal in the field (in the actual, quality-oriented sense; not in the crooked marketing speech JIF sense).

A bit of an obscure Canadian gem.

I think I may have already posted this waaaaay back, but just in case I haven’t (and because I’m presently listening to it again), I’m posting it.

The Bogaardt Family originated from Indonesia, but eventually immigrated to Canada, settling in the city of Edmonton.

Ben joined a band with his brothers (Bill, Archie and Rick), who all appear on this wonderfully unique and #psychedelic record.

All of the family were musically talented, and Ben excelled both vocally and on guitar, and both of those talents are on display here.

Genre-wise, they could ping pong back and forth between #softrock R+B, #pop , #funk , #Psych , you name it.

Here, there’s original material, traditional, covers, as well as film soundtrack pieces.

This was a private press with a limited release in Canada, & is sought after up here.

Jon Camp is a fingerstyle guitarist and composer based out of the Washington, DC region. Jon blends twang, drone, and melody into a cohesive whole that is exploratory without forsaking the hook. His forthcoming release, "Proceed," out in October through Centripetal Force Records, is a full-band affair that is electric, expansive, and emotionally muscular, channeling a spirit of forward motion amidst the weight of memory and uncertainty. For Jon's Jazz Gallery set, he'll be in trio mode with Nick Arrivo on bass and Ryan Peterson on drums.

ragenap+dathon is the collaborative project of Joel Berk (ragenap) and Corey Lyons (Dathon). Together, they weave meditative, intricate and immersive soundscapes that explore the outer reaches of drone, minimalism, and free improvisation. Each set is a unique journey, building on a foundation of coiled points and harmonic textures before pushing towards the dark star.

Guitarist Jim Warchol has been a fixture of the Milwaukee music scene since the 1980s. He has been a member of bands such as Sometimes Sweet Susan, Loam, and Death Blues. Currently he is a member of Dryhouse Ruins, an instrumental quartet which will be releasing its debut double LP later this year.

Un rituale sonoro che fonde psych-stoner, krautrock con l’avanguardia elettronica di Riccardo Sinigaglia – architetto, docente storico di musica elettronica al Conservatorio di Milano e figura chiave del progetto Futuro Antico e dell’audiovisivo Correnti Magnetiche.

Parallelamente, Sinigaglia esplora paesaggi ritmici ancestrali nel duo Scosse Elettriche con Davide Zolli (Squadra Omega, DavMatic), mentre ha intrecciato universi sonori con il tablista Federico Sanesi, fondendo tradizioni indiane e sperimentazione contemporanea.

I Sothiac hanno suonato in Europa, Cina e Giappone aprendo in UK per leggende come i Faust e Jozef Van Wissem, trasformando ogni palco in un’esperienza cosmica e viscerale.

Insieme, Sothiac e Sinigaglia tessono chitarre telluriche intrecciate a synths e ritmiche rituali.

Un’esperienza sospesa tra materia e spirito, tra radici psichedeliche e visioni elettroniche ancestrali.
