A newly published expert consensus report from the European Society of Cardiology, appearing in the European Heart Journal, delivers this disturbing message. The report’s authors include cardiologists from Germany, Italy, the UK, and the US. Multiple studies demonstrate that nicotine raises blood pressure, damages blood vessels, and increases heart disease risk. The damage occurs even in the absence of smoke, tar, and combustion toxins.
