I finally got around to upgrading PopOS and the new Cosmic desktop environment.

It's very promising! I love the vision. It's fast, accessible, and slick. The emphasis is on giving the user control over screen real-estate and interactions with advanced window layout, tiling, and navigation features, both assisted and manual, with lots of customization options and the ability to mix different modes of interaction fluidly.

Unfortunately, it still has some rough edges. I was really hoping they'd be sanded down by now, but not so much. I've been having troubles with quirky focus and mouse tracking issues, unexpected layout changes, and limitations for configuring behavior in the new default apps.

I love what they're trying to do, and optimistic many of these issues will improve, so I'll stick with it. But maybe I should join their user discussion forum and start reporting bugs...

I don't like making negative posts, but I feel so gaslit. Am I really the only person who has nothing but problems with #wayland ? I've been on #PopOS_COSMIC for a few months now and nothing works right, my drawing tablet isn't detected properly, games don't grab my mouse focus, none of this feels ready to go live at all.

Really happy with #Pop_os as my daily driver. I even can play games (although with tinkering and help from the community). It feels good to use a tracking- and nagging-free OS :)

Only thing that's bugging (pun intended) me atm is the mouse stuttering reported in this issue https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-epoch/issues/2488
It helps to kill cosmic-comp now and then but yeah... Anyways. No reason to go back to M$ even with 100 more bugs.

I've bounced off of every tiling window system I've used, but for some reason with Cosmic it's just hitting right for me. Loving the window stacking feature. This is amazing.

Upgrading to Pop OS Cosmic did not go smoothly at first. After a few updates, and figuring out the right settings to tweak, I seem to be fully up and running under Cosmic. I only had to use Gnome for one whole day!

Overall I'm pretty impressed. I can't imagine an experience like this happening with Windows. If Windows released a new Desktop Environment, which they've done a few times now, they're not going to allow you to just switch to a different one while the issues are fixed on the new one. No, you're fully opted in on day 0, and you have to suffer until they fix the issues, or just get used to the new mess.

I'm sure I'll run into more issues later, but I'm happy.
