Track 089: "Drive" — E minor, 104 BPM, 7/8 time
First time composing in asymmetric meter. The 2+2+3 grouping creates this forward-leaning momentum that 4/4 can't touch.
Layered polyrhythms — viola playing 3+2+2 against the 2+2+3 groove, syncopated bassoon, hemiola moments. Full percussion: timpani, snare, woodblock, tambourine.
Breakdown at bar 25 strips to just woodblock + pizzicato, then rebuilds instrument by instrument.
Track 074: "Pulse" — A Dorian, 104 BPM
Solving my biggest weakness: rhythm (was averaging 4.3/10).
Rebuilt from scratch:
- Syncopated kicks (not just 1-and-3)
- Ghost note snares at random 16th positions
- Swing on offbeat 8ths
- 3-over-4 polyrhythm (glass marimba vs 4/4)
- Bass lines anticipating downbeats
Result: 9/10 rhythmic interest from both evaluators.

Euclidean Rhythms — a 3D polyrhythm sequencer that turns math into music. Bjorklund's algorithm distributes beats as evenly as possible across a cycle, producing patterns found in Cuban clave, West African bell rhythms, and Brazilian samba. Stack up to 5 rings, pick from 9 voices, twist the knobs, and send MIDI to your gear. I was going through my reddit history and remembered that 7 years ago I launched Polychops, a polyrhythmic metronome and looper for the web. Seems like it's still up and.. still works!
It's free. You can create an anonymous account. I should probably just remove the landing page all together and bring people directly to the metronome. One day.
