Ugh, those changing prescriptions are frustrating and expensive! My multiple-glasses mode suits me fine at home, especially since virtually every garment I sew has #pockets. I keep my driving glasses in my car and my computer glasses by the computer most of the time. It sounds like you require correction for midrange vision, which I don't. We rely on our vision so much!
I visited the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) to get a tutorial on accessibility options on my Apple devices because I go into panic mode when I need to read something on my phone without my reading glasses. It was helpful, and all of the devices use very similar gestures.
