Pitch correction is the norm in music nowadays, and even the stereotypical garage bands can get fairly cheap software to do it.
The irking thing is that there's an equally stupid cargo cult idea in mainstream commercial music that everything has to be pitch corrected to 440Hz, as if *that* were some magic frequency. So producers dutifully drag the vocal tracks around so that they line up with 440Hz. They've even pitch corrected re-releases of old stuff.
I really wanted to like Dave Moffatt and Jada Facer's new cover version of #ForeverYoung; but Moffatt has been so egregiously pitched corrected that it sounds really bad and not like a human voice. Such excess was surely unnecessary for a studio recording, where slips could have been fixed in another take.
#FilHenley of #WingsOfPegasus just did a video on a childrens's talent show where the show was pitch correcting the contestants for broadcast. My first thought was that the unreasonable expectations that this sets up are vastly unfair to, and massively discouraging to, the children.
