Recently there's been some sad about #Singapore 's #LGBTQIA #Pride event #PinkDotSg. The harassed some of the protesters who went to pink dot.

Pink dot's response calls these protesters as staging an unregistered protest.

As a protest for queer people, it is ridiculous that they can otherise queer people protesting and say they are protesting wrong. That their issues do not belong or are included under the banner that Pink Dot protests for.
Equality for all, freedom to love, freedom from discrimination and the acceptance of all families.

For all the good that pink dot does, We deserve better from its organising committee.

“do read this 🧵. @PinkDotSG organizers have recently used disproportionate force, surveillance, profiling, & have actively involved the police against members of the queer, trans, & non-binary community. given this blatant policing, PD is increasingly unsafe for LGBTQIA+ people.”

A great time at #PinkDotSG this evening!

Couldn't stay too long as we took our 2 year old daughter and she needed to get back home for bed.

She did have a great time dancing to the live music we managed to see!

Today is #PinkDotSG! Where people gather in Singapore's Hong Lim park in support of the #LGBTQ+ community and the freedom to love.

This is the first time I am able to attend, as I only got my #Singapore Permanent Residency last year. Bizarrely, only Singapore citizens and PRs are allowed to attend (a forced requirement by the hugely conservative Singapore government).

PLU, People Like Us, was formed in 1993. it's the main queer organization that took the lead on advocacy until #PinkDotSg in 2009. It was never successfully registered under the Registrar of Societies.

They organised monthly sunday meetups (initial in people's houses before the gatherings got too big and they needed to book rooms) Where they would have a main talk and break out sessions. (this sounds very familiar)

People Like Us

People Like Us (PLU) was Singapore's first and hugely influential LGBT equality advocacy group. It wrote the lion's share of local LGBT history from the early 1990s to the late 2000s, after which the lead was taken over by Pink Dot, as well as Sayoni. It applied twice to be officially registered as a society but was rejected both times by the Registrar of Societies. It is now in its third incarnation as "PLU3" but is still overwhelmingly known simply as "PLU". Owing to the prominence of the orga

The #PinkDot event returned to Hong Lim Park on Saturday (Jun 18) for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic started more than two years ago.

Among the attendees was People's Action Party (PAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Henry Kwek. According to Pink Dot organisers, this is the first time an MP from the ruling PAP has attended the event.

Workers' Party MP Jamus Lim was also seen at the event.
