Pine Siskin this morning, one of our lesser seen members of the Fringillidae Family. More common in northern latitudes, it is unusual to see them in our area. This was during an Arctic outbreak, so they may have moved south a bit. Birds of the World notes that movements may seem sporadic.

Wings Over Water

“I happened to catch this pine siskin (Spinus pinus) mid-flight over the bird bath.

Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story.

Brushstrokes of a Siskin

When I took this photo, I initially thought the bird was a House Finch—since they also have streaky lines on their breast. But the markings here are darker and more dotted than what you'd typically see on a finch. It turns out this bird is a Pine Siskin (Spinus pinus), another member of the finch family.

If you're a fan of stunning dove imagery, be sure to explore my photo gallery for a collection of beautiful snapshots that capture their elegance and charm.

American Goldfinches (Spinus tristis) are busy this morning. On the far right is a close cousin, the Pine Siskin (Spinus pinus). These two species often flock together in the Winter months.

On a day with snow, sleet and freezing rain, feeder stations are busy. A through the window shot.

A female cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis), a Pine Siskin (Spinus pinus) and a House Finch (Haemorhous mexicanus) share a feeder.

House finches are native to Mexico and the Southwestern US and were introduced to other regions of North America.
