They tell me it is international museum day, so I figured I'd celebrate by posting this essay from May of 2020. The Philadelphia Museum of art had reopened its new galleries of European Art in March. I'd popped in for a quick look, figuring I'd be back for a leisurely visit, but then the pandemic hit and the city closed down

By May I was desperate for something to write about, but I remembered the new galleries. So I interviewed the curator over the phone from my memory of a 20 minute visit two months earlier. Years later, we chatted again about Mary Cassatt, but that first interview was a highlight in sad times.
